Updated September 2026.
An IHG Confirmable Suite Upgrade can be one of the most valuable Milestone Rewards available through IHG One Rewards. Unlike the complimentary room upgrades offered to Platinum Elite and Diamond Elite members at check-in, a Confirmable Suite Upgrade can be locked in before arrival.
How do you earn a Confirmable Suite Upgrade?
Confirmable Suite Upgrades are currently available as Milestone Reward choices at 20, 40 and 70 qualifying nights.
Once selected, the upgrade is valid for 12 months from the date of selection, so it is worth thinking about likely stays before choosing one.
What does the upgrade cover?
A single Confirmable Suite Upgrade can be applied to:
- one room;
- one stay; and
- up to five consecutive nights.
If an entry-level suite is available for the entire stay, IHG can confirm the upgrade in advance. If there is no qualifying suite available, a premium room may be offered instead. You can decline that alternative and retain the upgrade for another stay.
When can you apply it?
The request window opens 14 days before arrival and closes 24 hours before check-in.
At present, IHG requires members to contact Customer Care to apply the upgrade. It cannot simply be selected during the original online booking process.
Which rates are eligible?
IHG lists eligible examples including Best Flexible, Member Discount, Reward Nights, government rates and certain corporate and package rates.
Important exclusions include many third-party and wholesale bookings, employee rates, some hotel packages and prepaid rates where a deposit has already been applied.
Can you use one on a Reward Night?
Yes. This is one of the most useful features of the benefit. A standard-room Reward Night can potentially be upgraded to an entry-level suite if qualifying suite inventory is available when the 14-day window opens.
Does a suite upgrade include Club Lounge access?
No. This catches people out. If the confirmed suite happens to be on a Club floor, the Confirmable Suite Upgrade itself does not grant Club Lounge access.
Lounge access would need to come from the booked rate, a separate entitlement such as Annual Lounge Membership, or a hotel-specific benefit.
Can you combine it with InterContinental Ambassador?
You cannot stack a Confirmable Suite Upgrade with the Ambassador or Royal Ambassador guaranteed upgrade on the same stay. If you use the Confirmable Suite Upgrade, you do not then receive a further Ambassador room-category upgrade on top.
How to get the best value from a Confirmable Suite Upgrade
The strongest use is often a longer stay at a hotel where the gap between a standard room and an entry-level suite is substantial. Because one upgrade can cover up to five nights, a five-night stay can produce far more value than using the same certificate for a single night.
It also makes sense to examine the hotel’s room-category ladder before booking. Some hotels have a straightforward standard-room-to-suite progression; others have several premium rooms before reaching the first suite. Understanding that structure helps set realistic expectations.
What happens if no suite is available?
Customer Care may offer a premium room instead. You do not have to accept it. If the alternative is not worthwhile, declining it preserves the Confirmable Suite Upgrade for another eligible stay.
That makes it sensible to have a backup use in mind, especially as the certificate approaches expiry.

Which hotels cannot use the benefit?
IHG currently excludes certain brands and property types, including avid hotels, Atwell Suites, IHG Army Hotels, Holiday Inn Club Vacations and Six Senses. The benefit is also unavailable at IHG Residences and InterContinental Alliance Resorts in Las Vegas and Macau.
Confirmable Suite Upgrade or bonus points?
The answer depends on the stay. A small points bonus has an obvious fixed value. A suite upgrade has much wider potential value but depends on finding eligible availability.
If you have a suitable multi-night stay at an expensive hotel, the upgrade can be worth far more than the alternative points reward. If your travel is mostly one-night stays at hotels with few suites, the equation changes.
