The 2026 MICHELIN Key hotel awards have produced an interesting result for IHG One Rewards members: dozens of IHG properties now carry one or two MICHELIN Keys, and several of them are hotels that can still be booked at points levels far below what you might expect from a globally recognised luxury property.
IHG itself announced 51 Luxury & Lifestyle properties in the 2026 MICHELIN Key selection. One of those was Regent Porto Montenegro, which is leaving IHG, so for travellers looking specifically at the current IHG portfolio the practical list is 50 hotels.
What is a MICHELIN Key?
MICHELIN Keys are the hotel equivalent of MICHELIN Stars for restaurants. Hotels in the wider MICHELIN Guide are assessed on design, service, character, consistency and how successfully the property connects guests with its destination.
- One MICHELIN Key: a particularly strong and distinctive hotel stay.
- Two MICHELIN Keys: a more exceptional property with a highly memorable experience.
- Three MICHELIN Keys: the very top level of the system.
Across all hotel groups, MICHELIN awarded 2,020 One-Key hotels, 657 Two-Key hotels and 155 Three-Key hotels for 2026. None of IHG’s current properties received Three Keys, but ten received Two Keys and forty current IHG hotels received One Key.
The IHG brands represented
The recognition is concentrated entirely in IHG’s Luxury & Lifestyle portfolio. Six Senses dominates the list, while InterContinental has the broadest selection of hotels that may be realistically accessible to many IHG One Rewards members.

The most interesting hotels for IHG points
The most useful part of this list is not simply identifying which IHG hotels MICHELIN likes. It is spotting the hotels where the gap between reputation and redemption price may be unusually attractive.
InterContinental Phuket Resort
This is the standout because it is the only current InterContinental with Two MICHELIN Keys. Cash and points pricing can be high in peak season, but off-season reward pricing has historically dropped dramatically. If the weather risk works for your trip, that can create an unusually accessible route into a hotel MICHELIN regards as one of IHG’s strongest properties.
InterContinental Sofia
Sofia is a very different proposition. It is a city hotel rather than an aspirational resort, but that is precisely why it is interesting. Cash rates can be modest compared with many luxury hotels, while IHG reward pricing has often remained in a range that makes it realistic for ordinary points balances.
InterContinental Khao Yai Resort
This Thailand resort is another property where points prices have often looked far more approachable than the headline luxury positioning might suggest. It is the type of hotel where comparing the cash rate against the current IHG points price can produce a genuinely strong redemption.
InterContinental Lyon – Hotel Dieu
I have stayed at InterContinental Lyon – Hotel Dieu, so this is one of the MICHELIN-Key hotels on the list I can compare with first-hand experience. InterContinental Athénée Palace Bucharest
I have also stayed at InterContinental Athénée Palace Bucharest. Its inclusion is a good reminder that MICHELIN-Key recognition is not limited to remote luxury resorts: a historic city hotel that remains accessible through IHG One Rewards can sit on the same list as much more expensive destination properties.
Regent Phu Quoc
Regent Phu Quoc is one of only three current Regent properties with a MICHELIN Key. Regent redemptions can require a very large IHG balance, but this is exactly the kind of property where points can unlock a hotel that would otherwise command a substantial cash rate.
Asia dominates the IHG list
One of the clearest patterns is geographical. Most of IHG’s MICHELIN-recognised properties are in Asia-Pacific, particularly across Japan, Thailand, China, Vietnam and island-resort destinations. That is useful for IHG members because the region also contains some of the chain’s strongest luxury and lifestyle properties.
Europe contributes a smaller but still interesting group, including London, Rome, Budapest, Bucharest, Sofia, Lyon and the Douro Valley. The Americas and Middle East & Africa are much more lightly represented.
Does a MICHELIN Key make a hotel a good redemption?
No. A hotel can be excellent and still be poor value on points.
I would still compare:
- The points price for the exact night.
- The cash rate including taxes.
- The value I place on the IHG points being used.
- Whether a fourth-night-free benefit applies on an eligible IHG credit card account.
- Whether a paid rate would trigger useful promotions or elite earnings.
- Whether the destination and hotel actually suit the trip.
The MICHELIN Key is best treated as another quality signal — not a reason to redeem points blindly.
Why this list is useful
Luxury hotel awards often produce lists full of properties that are interesting to look at but unrealistic to book. What makes this IHG selection more useful is that several of the hotels remain accessible through IHG One Rewards, and some have reward prices that can occasionally look surprisingly sensible.
That creates a useful shortlist for future redemptions: not necessarily the 50 hotels to book at any cost, but 50 properties worth checking when your travel plans overlap with their destinations.
